Nineveh Calling

[Verse 1] Jonah hit the road at dawn Tried to outrun the call Bought a ticket, bowed his head Then the whole thing started to fall Black sea rolling under him And the wind began to moan He could run from the shore But he could not run from the throne [Pre-Chorus] Down he goes Past the foam Past the pride Past the home When the storm Takes its toll Every lie comes up to show [Chorus] Nineveh calling, calling Nineveh calling him back Nineveh calling, calling He can’t outrun that track From the deep to the desert From the fear to the flame Nineveh calling, calling And the world says his name [Verse 2] In the dark inside the beast Three days, no sky, no sun He was buried in the blue Till the praying came undone He said, “I’ve been stubborn, Lord I’ve been hard as a stone” And the belly of the wave Became a road back home [Pre-Chorus] Down he goes Then he bends Broken man Mends again When the cold Starts to crack Mercy pulls a witness back [Chorus] Nineveh calling, calling Nineveh calling him back Nineveh calling, calling He can’t outrun that track From the deep to the desert From the fear to the flame Nineveh calling, calling And the world says his name [Bridge] Now he stands where the crows flew Under a bruised-up sky Hands still shaking in the heat But the word will not die City full of crooked hearts Waiting by the gate Even when he hates the road He still carries grace [Final Chorus] Nineveh calling, calling Nineveh calling him back Nineveh calling, calling He can’t outrun that track From the deep to the desert From the fear to the flame Nineveh calling, calling And the world says his name Nineveh calling, calling He answered anyway
