[Verse 1] He was a preacher man, his voice soft thunder rollin’ Bible in his hand, cross hangin’, long coat flowin’ Saved a hundred souls in the desert heat and rust Never carried nothin’ but the town’s hard-earned trust [Verse 2] They came one night, like shadows with no name Ridin’ hard and fast, bringin’ death and flame Torched his little house, gunned his family down Left their blood in the dust on the edge of town [Chorus] Now he rides through the night with the Lord in his hand Swapped his Bible for a Colt .45 Ain’t no mercy - and God don’t miss His heart went cold when he made that list He pulls that trigger like he’s tollin’ the bell He was a preacher man - now he’s sendin’ ‘em all to hell Oh… sendin’ ‘em all to hell…! [Verse 3] Billy pissed himself when the hammer fell Preacher spit and said, “That’s a soul-stained farewell” Tommy took another between the eyes Left him gaping in blood-stained surprise Slick Joe screamed as the saloon caught flame Preacher barred the doors, didn’t speak his name Black-Eyed Sam got gutshot in a pew Preacher lit a match, said, “Your soul’s overdue" ...“Your soul’s overdue!”... [Chorus] Now he rides through the night with the Lord in his hand Swapped his Bible for a Colt .45 Ain’t no mercy - and God don’t miss His heart went cold when he made that list He pulls that trigger like he’s tollin’ the bell He was a preacher man - now he’s sendin’ ‘em all to hell Oh… sendin’ ‘em all to hell…! [Verse 4] Now it’s just me, and a bullet left with my name He’s out there ridin’, with death in the rain Tried to drink it down, tried to pray it away But I hear them spurs, gettin’ closer every day ...he's gettin' close... [Outro Verse] Then I saw him - coat hangin’ like a storm-cloud low Eyes like winter, boots crunchin’ slow My hand reached down, as he shot me through That’s how it ends when the Preacher Man comes for you. ...when the Preacher Man comes for you.
