Tudor Rickards’ Terry Goes to Wimbledon (Grunge) by GM Jon
Terry is the tennis playing tortoise In his tracksuit yellow and blue He loves playing tortoise tennis doubles But he loves to watch it too Terry wins a ticket in the Raffle For a day at Wimbledon So he cancels all of his appointments For a day of tennis fun Terry’s done it! Terry’s won it! For a day of tennis fun Tennis fun For a day of tennis fun On the last time that he won a ticket For a semi-final game As the weather gods predicted He never got to watch a game That was when all of the courts were open No protection from the rain. Every shower meant a hold up Before play could start again No protection, no protection No protection from the rain. From the rain No protection from the rain Now each central court is well-protected With a special sliding roof Which regardless of the weather Makes spectators waterproof Well protected, Well protected Well protected from the rain. From the rain Well protected from the rain Terry sets off on his tennis journey With his sandwiches for tea Then he couldn’t find his entry ticket Where, he wondered could it be? Lost his ticket, lost his ticket Where, he wondered could it be? Could it be Where, he wondered could it be But there was a happy ending Sometimes opportunity knocks He was recognised as Terry Tortoise And escorted to Royal Box Happy ending, happy ending! Watching from the Royal Box Royal box Terry watched it from the Royal Box
