Weight I Carry
Verse 1 I held her through another storm, her little heart pressed into mine. She cried for reasons she can’t name, and I said, “Baby, you’re alright.” But inside I felt the tremble, the tightness rising in my chest. I kept my voice soft for her sake, and swallowed everything I felt. Pre‑Chorus By bedtime I am empty, like I’ve poured out every part. She sleeps so calm beside me, while I fall apart in the dark. Chorus I’m trying, God, I’m trying, but I feel too thin tonight. I love her more than breathing, and still I lose my light. Her heart is loud inside me, mine hides behind my ribs. I want to be her safe place, but I don’t know how to live. Verse 2 I step into the hallway, close the door so she won’t hear. I press my face into my hands, and let go of every fear. I replay every moment I wish I’d handled differently. The sigh too sharp, the patience lost, the part of me she shouldn’t see. Pre‑Chorus I kneel beside her doorway, whisper prayers I can’t explain. Why does this feel so heavy, why does love come with this ache? Chorus I’m trying, God, I’m trying, but I feel too thin tonight. I love her more than breathing, and still I lose my light. Her heart is loud inside me, mine hides behind my ribs. I want to be her safe place, but I don’t know how to live. Bridge I’m scared of how I crumble, how small I feel inside. How I carry both our feelings and still think I’m not right. I ask You for the strength to be the mother she deserves. But all I have tonight are these quiet, breaking words. Final Chorus I’m trying, God, I’m trying, but I’m tired in my bones. I love her more than anything, and still feel so alone. Her heart is loud inside me, mine hides behind my ribs. I’m doing all I can, but I don’t know how to live.
