Act 2 scene 10- “Table Turned”
[Characters: • JESUS – Focused, righteous anger • MONEYCHANGERS / MERCHANTS – Greedy, smug • CROWD / ENSEMBLE – Shocked, reactive] ⸻ [ENSEMBLE – busy chatter, over a pulsing, frantic beat] Get your lambs, get your grain! Bring your coin, it’s not in vain! Exchange your silver, pay your due Worship costs—but not to you Temple’s full, and pockets wide A marketplace where faith can hide Line the walls with holy scams— Blessed are those with sacrificial lambs ⸻ [JESUS –male voice low, pacing under his breath] You sell what’s sacred Price the prayer Trade peace for profit God ain’t there You fill His courts with smoke and lies But I see clear through your disguise This ain’t a house—it’s a trap in disguise You forgot the flame So I’ll bring fire to rise ⸻ [BEAT DROPS — chaotic, aggressive rhythm kicks in] [JESUS – male voice explosive flow] Flip the tables—snap the cords! Tear down altars built on fraud This is not your showroom floor— This is my Father’s house, not your store! You tax the widow, shame the poor Count coins while you ignore What burns beneath this sacred dome— But zeal for His house consumes my bones ⸻ [CROWD – shocked, scattered responses] What is he doing?! Is he mad?! He’s turning the tables— Like some street-rabbi gone bad! ⸻ [MERCHANTS – defensive, panicked] Who gave him right? Who gave him say? He can’t just walk in And drive us away! ⸻ [JESUS – deep male voice commanding, voice cutting through chaos] You turned worship into weight You built a gate where there should be grace I’m not asking—I’m clearing space This house is holy I won’t be erased ⸻ [REFRAIN – JESUS deep male voice + ENSEMBLE SHOUT] Zeal for your house consumes me! (Consumes me!) This ain’t your stage—it’s sacred ground! (Sacred ground!) Flip the tables! Let it burn! (Let it burn!) Truth don’t sell—but it will return! ⸻ [BEAT BUILDS to sharp cut. Silence. Just heavy breath.]
