[Intro – Spoken] Well, I got a neighbor moved in last week... Said he liked things quiet. I told him, “Buddy... you bought the wrong house.” [Verse 1] Fired up my smoker ’bout a quarter after ten, Had a rack of ribs and about six of my friends. Smoke rolled over the fence like a freight train in July, Then I heard that neighbor holler, “HEY! What’s that in the sky?!” I said, “That ain't smoke, son, That's flavor taking flight!” He said, “I'm calling the cops!” I said, “Well, alright... Tell ’em bring their appetite!” [Chorus] My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, Said my backyard smelled like somethin' illegal to do. Officer walked up, took one big sniff, Said, “Son, I ain't writing you a ticket— But can I get a plate of this?” My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, Now the whole dang precinct wants a sample too! [Verse 2] Got chicken on the grill and a brisket in the pit, Cornbread in the skillet and beans getting lit. Neighbor peeked over the fence with a look of pure disgust, Then five minutes later yelled, “HEY! You got some extra sauce?” I said, “I thought you hated everything I do.” He said, “I hate the smoke... But that brisket smells pretty good too.” [Chorus] My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, Said the smell was making him hungry through and through. Officer said, “We got a complaint about the smoke...” Then he looked at my ribs and said, “Buddy, that's no joke!” My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, Now he's sitting in a lawn chair asking, “Y'all got room for two?” [Bridge – Spoken / Comedy] Dispatch called back: “Sir, we've received another complaint.” I said, “From who?” “Your neighbor.” I said, “What now?” “He says you didn't invite him.” “Well... THAT sounds like a personal problem.” [Final Chorus] My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, But the cops showed up hungry like the rest of us do. One brought a chair, one brought a plate, One said, “Man, this brisket's worth the wait!” My neighbor called the cops on my BBQ, Now we're all out back having a neighborhood cookout too! [Outro – Spoken] Neighbor said, “I guess you're not so bad.” I said, “You're welcome anytime.” He said, “Same time next Saturday?” I said, “Bring potato salad.” Well... looks like we solved the crime.
