Do Not Feed The Band

Attention backstage visitors: Please do not feed the band. That sign is new. That sign is a dare. That sign smells nervous. I taped it up beside the door Big red letters, nothing more No snacks, no gifts, no “just one bite” No fans left alone at night I made a chart, I made a plan I underlined “do not feed band” Then someone brought a tray inside And half the interns tried to hide It started with a cupcake box Cute little hearts and tiny locks Then came a note that smelled like need “Please enjoy me after the feed” I’m not a saint, I’m not a wall I read the card, I ate it all And if a fan jumps in my hand That is not feeding the band Lexi! What? They self-catered. Rules exist for everyone’s care But temptation fills the air [Éléonore - elegant] A warning loses all command When phrased like a menu stand Do not feed the band Do not reach out your hand Do not whisper, “take me too” They will absolutely listen to you Do not feed the band Read the sign and understand If you climb inside the van That is still feeding the band Do not feed! Do not feed! Too late now! Mind the teeth! A gentleman with roses came A charming pulse, a pretty name He said he wished to be admired By something dangerous and inspired I explained, with tact and grace That signs are there for safety’s sake He answered, “Rules are less than art” So I received him, piece by heart That is not compliance! It was informed enthusiasm. One fan knocked. One fan ran. Bad move. Wrong plan. Shoes squeaked. Back hall. I heard. All. The sign said no. He said yes. Chase counts as consent? No. Then he volunteered after. Better. Do not feed the band Do not reach out your hand Do not whisper, “take me too” They will absolutely listen to you Do not feed the band Read the sign and understand If you climb inside the van That is still feeding the band New rule: No edible fan mail. No snack-shaped costumes. No hiding in cake boxes. No chanting “eat me” near Thandiwe. Unfair. What about tasteful offerings? Especially those. Some came shaking after shows Too much noise and too much glow I offered quiet, pulse, and shade A safer place where fear could fade I know the sign was very clear But lonely hearts kept coming near I only meant to help them stand That may be feeding the band Okay... That one is harder to argue. They bring us candy, letters, flowers Then themselves after two hours They write “for you” across their chest And wonder why we fail the test I’m trying hard to keep things neat But all our fans are way too sweet So maybe signs should be more bland Than “do not feed the band” Signs up! Mouths shut! Hands off! Bad luck! Fans wait! Girls behave! No snacks Backstage! Boring. Necessary. Tragic. Kind. [Ji-Yeon] Thank you! Do not feed the band Do not reach out your hand Do not whisper, “take me too” They will absolutely listen to you Do not feed the band Read the sign and understand If you climb inside the van That is still feeding the band Do not feed! Do not feed! Too late now! Mind the teeth! Reminder: Do not feed the band. Unless you’re delicious. Lexi! We need a better sign. Or a bigger bus. Do not feed... Do not feed... Do not feed the band...
