The Passing of the Banner (part V - Conclusion - Hard Man Saga)
Verse 1 The centuries turned like weary wheels, The mountains wore away, The oceans drained to silver dust, And night outlasted day. He walked until the stars forgot The stories men had sung, And where the breath of angels died, He laid the banner down. Verse 2 Its glow was faint ... a candle’s sigh, But pure as first creation. He knelt upon the broken earth, And felt its slow vibration. He’d carried pain through mortal time, And now his task was through. The gods were gone, the world reborn He’d done what few could do. Chorus (majestic, angelic backing) Lift, lift your voice, O hosts of air, For stone has learned to love and care. No curse remains, no chain endures, The soul that bleeds now heals, and cures. Verse 3 The angels came, in robes of flame, Their wings like molten glass. They circled round the Hard Man’s form, And sang of all that passed. Their song was neither mourn nor praise, But harmony made whole The sound of balance reconciled, The weight of mortal soul. [Bridge Angels Choir -Soft choir builds from distance .. overlapping, layered] "Rise, son of dust, your burden done, Return where stars and rivers run. No heaven owns your steadfast will, No god commands .. be silent, still." ... Verse 4 He smiled the first in all his years, A crack across the stone. He whispered, “Let the next one bear What must, and not alone.” He left no map, no warning words, No plea, no prophecy .. Just peace upon the scorched red ground, And quiet certainty. Final Chorus (full angelic choir and drums) Lift, lift your voice, O hosts of light, For man has faced the endless night. The banner sleeps, its flame contained, Till mercy’s needed, pain regained. [Outro (slow, fading .. angelic choir echoes over his last words] And when the dawn forgets to rise, And hearts grow hard again, The banner stirs beneath the ash Awaiting mortal hands. The angels watch, they do not weep, For even suffering can keep The world in balance, bright and strange Eternal trial, eternal change. ... . . .. ..
