Eulogy for the Mad One
One candle still burns in the hall of the blind… They say he danced with ghosts, spoke with flames. But who dares to mourn the mad? The curtains opened, no one clapped Only shadows watched him fall. His hands still trembled with the script, But the ink had turned to gall. He sang for saints who lost their wings, He wept for devils chained, And painted graves on empty walls Each marked with his own name. They fed him dreams in vials of gold, Sweet poisons in disguise. He drank the stars, he swallowed fire, And whispered lullabies. But silence grew inside his skull, A ticking, sacred clock And time, unkind and full of teeth, Devoured him with mock. Eulogy for the Mad One, Whose mind the gods unstrung. He howled the hymns of hollow bells, And died with songs unsung. Did you see him in your mirror? Did his shadow beg to stay? Did your breath grow cold and distant… When he slowly turned away? Now violins are axes, And trumpets scream like wolves The madman walks through burning halls Where reason is removed. He laughs with bleeding angels, He dances on despair And every step he takes now Sets fire to the air. Eulogy for the Mad One, Who broke the stars in two. He found no god, no peace, no truth Just darkness shining through. The stage is ash, the candle’s done. But in the dark… he’s not alone.
