Intense rays cutting through haze, Ending the dark, beginning the blaze. Burning clouds that drift away, You turn our night into day. Helios, Apollo, Soleil and Ra, Ancient names we still recall, Your light belongs to all. You climb the east with golden grace, Sparking life in every place. We all get a piece of the sun, From every dawn ’til the day is done. You feed the roots, you warm the skin, You wake the life that sleeps within. And in your glow, I feel I’ve won, This world, this breath, my piece of the sun. Leaves reach up for your glow, The rivers gleam, the breezes flow. You warm the tides, you light the seas, You give the wings to all that breathe. You cast our shadows long and thin, Marking the hours we’re living in. From east to west, your kingdom wide, We chase your fire across the sky. We all get a piece of the sun, From every dawn ’til the day is done. You blind our eyes, yet show the way, The world reborn with every day. And though your light belongs to all My piece of the sun, rise to fall. As you set, the heavens sigh, A painted fire across the sky. And though you fall beyond the sea, You promise dawn will follow me.
