“Remote Control” Syndrome (2016) With the birth of the remote control, We learned to switch - we learned to scroll. The habit grew, became routine, And soon transformed the world we’d seen. No longer fixed, no ties remain, We change it all, again, again. First the channels, then our things- Plates and forks, disposable flings. Then it spread to cars and homes, To countries crossed, to lives unknown. And worse than all, we changed ourselves, Like fleeting echoes lost in bells. Then one by one, as time went on, We swapped out people - moved along. And so, in turn, we met our fate, Becoming things that could be replaced. This syndrome grips us and takes control, Detaching heart, dissolving the soul. Only habits remain when everything falls, Are the habits that become our walls.
