To the Root

You can cut the branches. You can sweep up the leaves. But if you never touch the root… it grows back. I kept trimming what everybody saw, Painting over every crack in the wall, Changing habits, changing names, Still somehow fighting the same old flames. I blamed the season, blamed the rain, Blamed everybody connected to the pain, But healing said, “If you want the truth, Quit staring at the fruit— Dig down to the root.” What keeps feeding this fear? Why does the same thing keep appearing? I don’t want another temporary fix, I want freedom deeper than this. Dig down, dig down, dig down to the root, Past what I feel, all the way to the truth. Pull up the lies that I’ve watered for years, The buried resentment, the anger, the fear. I don’t want branches pretending they’re new, While something underneath keeps breaking through. If I want different fruit, I gotta face the truth— Dig down to the root. Maybe the anger is covering grief, Maybe control is disguising disbelief, Maybe the walls that I call being strong Were built when somebody did me wrong. Maybe the pride is protecting a scar, Maybe I’ve forgotten whose child I are— No, I won’t decorate what God wants removed, Bring me the shovel— I’m digging for the root. Root of rejection—pull it. Root of resentment—pull it. Root of comparison—pull it. Root of bitterness—pull it. Root of deception—expose it. Root of unforgiveness—release it. Anything growing that You never planted— God, uproot it! DIG! Past the surface! DIG! Past the symptoms! DIG! Past the excuses! ROOT! ROOT! ROOT! I don’t want relief— I WANT RELEASE! I don’t want a mask— I WANT PEACE! Search my heart, Show me what’s hiding. Turn on the light Where darkness is surviving. Break every agreement I made with a lie. Pull out the poison I’ve kept alive. Plant something holy Where bitterness grew. Plant faith in the places That fear once knew. Good soil. New seed. Deep roots. Set free. Dig down, dig down, dig down to the root, Past every story that buried the truth. Pull up the lies that I’ve carried for years, Let living water wash over the tears. No more cutting branches while poison bears fruit, We’re going underneath where the battle took root. God, make me whole, From the leaves to the soul— DIG DOWN TO THE ROOT! Different fruit Needs a different root. So don’t just cut What everybody can see. Go deeper. Dig down to the root.
