[Intro, Extremely Close-Mic, Thoughtful] I keep saying "right now" like the whole universe knows what I mean. But does it? Is there a now on another world? And is their now the same as mine? [Verse I] I look into the night and think I'm seeing stars. But I'm seeing light that traveled years, centuries, millions of years before reaching my eyes. Some of those stars may already have changed. Some may no longer exist the way I see them. So I'm looking upward and seeing history painted across the sky. [Pre-Chorus] Then what am I actually seeing? The universe as it is? Or the universe as it was when its light began coming toward me? [Chorus] IS THIS NOW? Is there one moment shared by everything? One cosmic second stretching between every galaxy and every world? IS THIS NOW? Or is "now" something smaller than I thought? If light needs time to cross the darkness, how could everything share a single clock? Somewhere, somewhen... what does now even mean? [Female Throat Singing, Deep, Distant] [Verse II] Somewhere a star is being born. Somewhere another dies. Its light begins a journey through impossible distance. Maybe no one sees it for a billion years. But when did it happen? When the star changed? When the light left? When that light arrived inside another pair of eyes? The event happened there. The knowledge happened later. And between those moments the universe kept moving without waiting for anyone to know. [Pre-Chorus] So when I point into the darkness and say, "That exists right now"... how could I possibly know what "right now" means over there? [Chorus] IS THIS NOW? Is there one moment shared by everything? One cosmic second stretching between every galaxy and every world? IS THIS NOW? Or does every observer meet time differently? If distance changes what we see, and motion changes what agrees, whose now belongs to the universe? [Female Throat Singing, Expanding] [Verse III, Close-Mic, Curious] And then relativity makes it stranger. Two observers can move differently and disagree about whether distant events happened at the same time. Not because one clock is broken. Not because someone counted wrong. The universe itself doesn't require them to share the same answer. And gravity changes time too. Put clocks in different conditions, bring them together again, and they may no longer agree on how much time passed. Same universe. Different journeys. Different time. [Interlude, Celestial Drift] [Build] That breaks something inside the picture I carried in my head. I imagined one enormous present moving across everything. Yesterday behind it. Tomorrow ahead. Every star, every planet, every living thing crossing the same invisible line together. But maybe there is no single line. [Bridge, Bare Close-Mic Voice] We say the universe is billions of years old. And on the largest scales, we can describe its history with cosmic time. But that isn't a clock hanging above existence. There isn't a giant hand sweeping across the galaxies telling everything... NOW. Time belongs to spacetime. Motion matters. Gravity matters. Where you are matters. How you move matters. And suddenly the word I've used my entire life doesn't feel simple anymore. [Deep Female Throat Singing] [Verse IV, Vast Wonder] Maybe somewhere someone is looking toward Earth. Maybe our light is crossing their sky. But perhaps they're seeing a world from long before I was born. Maybe someday light carrying this moment will finally reach them. This breath. This night. This tiny world turning around its star. And if they look toward us and wonder what Earth is doing "right now"... what could right now possibly mean? [Final Chorus, Vast, Celestial] IS THIS NOW? Or is now only here, inside this moment where the universe reaches me? IS THIS NOW? Across the stars, across the dark, across distances too enormous to imagine? There may be no single present that all existence has to share. No universal heartbeat striking NOW everywhere. SOMEWHERE, SOMEWHEN, another mind may ask this too: If your now isn't quite my now, what moment belongs to you? [Outro, Extremely Close-Mic, Almost Whispered] I thought I understood time because I owned a clock. Seconds. Minutes. Hours. Nice little numbers marching forward. But the universe never promised to follow my clock. So I'll ask again... right here, right now... Is... this... now? [Female Throat Singing, Dissolving Into Cosmic Silence]
