[Intro] I left the label on the jar It came unstuck before the dawn You asked me what to call it I said, give it time [Verse 1] At the laundromat, your blue sleeve spun Round and round with the coins and lint You read the tag, then crossed it out Like a small mistake you could live without I kept the paper folded in my shoe A map of all the names we outgrew [Pre-Chorus] Say it once, let it loosen Say it twice, let it fall There’s a little room between us Where the old words don’t fit at all [Chorus] Let the name come loose Let the shape move through I can meet you here Without the old word due Let the name come loose Leave the door unlatched You are more than what we called you More than what we had [Verse 2] On the kitchen sill, a chipped white cup Held rainwater and a bent green leaf You said, “I’m tired of keeping score” I slid the notebook across the floor We watched the ink bleed through the page No clean beginning, no final stage [Pre-Chorus] Say it once, let it loosen Say it twice, let it fall There’s a little room between us Where the old words don’t fit at all [Chorus] Let the name come loose Let the shape move through I can meet you here Without the old word due Let the name come loose Leave the door unlatched You are more than what we called you More than what we had [Bridge] No need to make a monument No need to keep the proof A coat can hang there empty And still be warm to you If you change your mind by morning I won’t ask you to explain We can start with what is present We can leave the rest unnamed [Final Chorus] Let the name come loose Let the shape move through I can meet you here With nothing left to prove Let the name come loose Leave the door unlatched You are more than what we called you More than what we had [Outro] The paper’s in the wash The ink is running thin You’re still here I’m still here That’s enough to begin
