FRANK 026 – The Bride Destroyed | Frankenstein
(Verse 1) He worked beneath the lamplight while midnight crossed the sea, And watched the silent figure that soon might come to be. Then dreadful possibilities assembled in his mind, A second race of creatures unleashed upon mankind. (Verse 2) She had not sworn the promise her future mate had sworn, Nor chosen exile freely before she could be born. She might despise the Creature and leave him to his pain, Or join him in his hatred and multiply the stain. (Chorus) He tore apart the promise before it drew a breath, And chose his broken honour to guard the world from death. Beyond the glass the Creature beheld his final hope, Then rage replaced the future that once had helped him cope. (Verse 3) The unfinished form was shattered beneath his frantic hand, As Victor chose destruction and broke what he had planned. Across the darkened window two burning eyes appeared, And in the watching Creature stood everything he feared. (Verse 4) The giant saw his companion destroyed before his eyes, And understood the promise had always sheltered lies. No wilderness awaited where two might disappear, For Victor had condemned him to solitude and fear. (Chorus) He tore apart the promise before it drew a breath, And chose his broken honour to guard the world from death. Beyond the glass the Creature beheld his final hope, Then rage replaced the future that once had helped him cope. (Bridge) One feared a race of monsters might spread across the earth, One saw his only equal denied the gift of birth. Between them stood the fragments of everything once sworn, And hatred crossed the darkness where hope had once been born. (Outro) The ocean struck the island beneath the moonless skies, While vengeance filled the Creature and hardened in his eyes. The promise lay in pieces upon the workshop floor, And neither man nor maker could turn from hatred more.
