The Barley Gold

V6

[Intro] (Warm piano, gentle acoustic guitar, wind blowing through fields) [Verse 1] Golden barley kissed the sun, Two young farms were joined as one. Deniara loved her Baltus there, Blessed by all the joy they'd share. Fields of green and hearth of stone, Nothing more they wished to own. Till Damarus crossed the plain, Bringing steel and bitter rain. [Chorus 1] DENIARA! Beneath the golden sun! DENIARA! Her heart had chosen one! A lord could offer silver, A lord could offer gold, The soul she gave to Baltus Was never his to hold! [Verse 2] Riders came with fire bright, Steel and terror in the night. Parents fell beneath the blade, Baltus died where shadows played. Through the burning crops of grain, She was dragged away in pain. (Baltus... Baltus...) [Verse 3] Years behind the castle stone, Wounded flesh, but not alone. For from tears a child was born, Pure and guiltless, yet forlorn. Close against her chest he came, Gifted with her lover's name. [Chorus 2] BALTUS! A name he could not break! BALTUS! A bond he could not take! Damarus gave him iron blood, Deniara gave the name! Beneath the bitter father's roof, Her Baltus lived again! [Verse 4] Tall he grew as she grew pale, Fading like an autumn tale. Then she told him of the dead, Where the blood had once been shed. Days went by, her eyes grew cold— As the baron watched untold. Baltus saw his path was clear, Turned to grief and forged a spear. [Instrumental Break] (Tense cello buildup, war drums, surging strings) [Verse 5] Farmers rose with scythe and brand, Swept the tyrant from the land! Broken fell the castle gate, Answering the years of hate! Face to face, the battle won, Stood the father and the son: "You gave blood, but nothing more... She gave the name I bore!" [Final Chorus - Massive Female Choir, Driving Drums, Sweeping Violin] DENIARA! The golden fields remember you! BALTUS! The son remembered too! No stone could cage her spirit, No lord could claim her soul! The love they tore asunder Has made the broken whole! DENIARA! The long night finds its end! BALTUS! Come carry her home again! [Outro] (Music falls almost silent, soft piano, solitary weeping violin) Beneath the earth he dug the clay, Where the forgotten lovers lay. Beside the man she meant to hold, He laid her in the barley gold. A gentle whisper crossed the stone: "Thank you... my son." He turned, but none was standing near... At last, her home was here. (Violin fades into wind) [End]
