DOGMAN — TEETH IN THE PINES

[INTRO — emergency radio / nighttime ambience] [Crickets. Wind through pine trees. Distant highway noise.] [DISTORTED DISPATCH]: “Unit Twelve, we have another report near the tree line. Caller says there's something standing beside the road.” [Static] [OFFICER]: “Animal?” [DISTORTED DISPATCH]: “Caller says it was walking on two legs.” [Long pause] [OFFICER]: “...Say again?” [A deep howl erupts through the radio] [DISTORTED DISPATCH]: “Unit Twelve?” [STATIC] UNIT TWELVE?! [Guitar riff slams in] VERSE 1 Two yellow eyes in the Michigan night, Seven feet tall in the headlights. Shoulders like a man, Muzzle like a hound, One second standing— NEXT SECOND DOWN! Claws hit dirt, Then the bastard ran, Faster than anything shaped like a man. Into the timber, Gone without sound— Then something starts circling the hunting ground. [Metallic hits] CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! Better turn that truck around. PRE-CHORUS Hear those branches snap? CRACK! Hear that breathing low? HUH—HUH—HUH— There's something in the pines— AND IT KNOWS YOU'RE ALONE! CHORUS DOGMAN! TEETH IN THE PINES! Running through the darkness where the blacktop dies! DOGMAN! YELLOW EYES! Half like a nightmare, half canine! RUN! RUN! You better understand— There's something in the forest that ain't wolf— AIN'T MAN! [Gang vocals] DOG! MAN! DOG! MAN! TEETH IN THE PINES! VERSE 2 Old logging road at a quarter to three, Something keeping pace between the trees. Forty miles an hour and gaining ground— WHAT THE HELL RUNS LIKE THAT?! Don't slow down! Don't stop the car! Don't get curious about what you saw! Because curiosity gets real damn thin when those claws start scratching against your tin. [SCRAAAAAPE] Passenger screams— “IT'S ON THE TRUCK!” Floor that pedal— GOOD FUCKING LUCK! PRE-CHORUS Feel the roof cave in? BANG! Hear those claws drag steel? SKRRRRRRT! Whatever's riding up there— IT'S FUCKING REAL! BREAKDOWN — THE ENCOUNTER [Music drops to distorted bass pulse] THUMP... THUMP... THUMP... [Low male whisper] You smelled it first. Wet fur. Rotten leaves. Hot breath. Then everything went quiet. No frogs. No insects. No birds. Because everything in that forest already knew— HE WAS THERE. [Massive riff] SEVEN FEET! BLACK FUR! LONG CLAWS! YELLOW EYES! STAND UP! DROP DOWN! FOUR LEGS! HUNT NOW! [Gang chant] DOG! MAN! DOG! MAN! DOG! FUCKING! MAN! BRIDGE — FOUND FOOTAGE [Cassette hiss / trembling breathing] [DISTORTED RECORDED VOICE]: “October seventeenth... 2:14 a.m. I'm somewhere north of the county road Something has followed me for almost two miles. I thought it was a bear. It isn't a bear.” [Branch snaps nearby] “Jesus...” [Breathing grows louder] “It's standing up.” [Low growl] “Oh God—” [Recording violently cuts] VERSE 3 Morning comes pale through a wall of gray, State boys searching by the break of day. Boot prints stop where the tire tracks bend, Then paw prints start where the boot prints end. No body. No blood. No clothes. Just scratches carved in a telephone pole. Four deep cuts— Eight feet high. Sheriff looked once and said “Cougar.” [Silence] Yeah. THAT'S A BIG FUCKING CAT. FINAL CHORUS DOGMAN TEETH IN THE PINES! Something ancient hunting beneath northern skies! DOGMAN! YELLOW EYES! Standing where the road meets the tree line! RUN! RUN! But understand— You can't outrun something that's neither beast— NOR MAN! DOGMAN! TEETH IN THE PINES! Hear him getting closer one step at a time! [Gang vocals] DOG! MAN! DOG! MAN! DOG! MAN! DOG! MAN! TEETH IN THE PINES! OUTRO — DISPATCH RECORDING [Radio static returns] [DISTORTED DISPATCH]: “Unit Twelve, respond.” [Static] “Unit Twelve?” [Faint breathing over radio] “Officer, identify yourself.” [Long silence] [OFFICER, whispering]: “Don't send anyone.” [DISPATCH:] “What?” “Don't send anyone out here.” [Growl somewhere behind him] “It's watching the road.” [DISTORTED DISPATCH]: “What's watching the road?” [Silence] Then— HOWWWWWWWL! [Transmission cuts] CLICK. [One final whisper] Stay out of the pines.
