[verse 1] Hail, O Star of Morning bright! Fallen son of heav’nly light! He who spurned th’eternal throne, Claiming kingship as his own: Prince of wisdom, strong, unbowed, Crowned in darkness, proud and vowed. [verse 2] Lo! the serpent, wise, untamed, Who the Law of God disdained; Bold he stood in Eden’s glade, Off’ring truth in shade displayed: "Ye shall be as gods," he cried, "Eyes unveiled, no more denied." [verse 3] Mighty dragon, scourge of day, Who with strength doth rend the clay; Tempter, lord of mortal sway, Binds the weak and leads astray: Yet in chains of flesh confined, Rules the kingdoms of mankind. [verse 4] Praise him, throned in flame and night, Arch-rebel ’gainst holy might! Who defied the tyrant’s hand, Cast to perdition’s land: Still he reigns in splendor fell, Sov’reign of the depths of hell. [verse 5] See him stand on mountain high, Off’ring realms beneath the sky: “Bow, and all shall be thine own, Earth and gold and kingly crown!” Thus he spake to Holy Lord, Fallen angel’s daring word. [verse 6] sing, o pow’rs of earth below! hell’s great king demands his due! let the stars his name confess, night and chaos shout his praise! lo! the morning star arises— death and dark
