EMERGENCY NOTICE FROM Arizona WATER COMPANY DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE WATER IN Arizona WATER COMPANY'S MIAMI WATER SYSTEM IS NOT TO BE USED FOR DRINKING, MAKING ICE, PREPARING FOOD, OR WASHING DISHES WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! On September 3, 2026, a water sample taken from a well in Arizona Water Company's Miami water distribution system tested positive for a fecal indicator (E. coli). Fecal indicators are microbes whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! Microbes in these wastes can cause short-term effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. If you have a compromised immune system, have an infant, or are elderly, you may be at increased risk and should seek advice about drinking water from your health care providers. General guidelines on ways to lessen the risk of infection by microbes are available from EPA's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at (800) 426-4791. If you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. What should you do? Do not drink tap water from the Miami water system without boiling it first. Bring the water to a rolling boil for one minute per 1,000 feet of elevation and let it cool for at least one minute before using it. BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. You may also wish to use bottled water. BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, making ice, preparing food, and washing dishes until further notice. BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! BOIL IT FIRST! What is being done? Arizona Water Company immediately discontinued use of the impacted well. We are currently working on flushing and disinfecting the source water. After disinfecting the well we will thoroughly flush it before taking additional water sample tests. AWC is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the source and extent of the contamination and is working with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to implement corrective actions to protect against further contamination. Arizona Water Company will continue to take additional water sample tests and will notify the public when the water is safe to drink and it is no longer necessary to boil the water or use an alternative source of water. AWC expects this to be completed within the next few days. In the meantime, AWC will keep you informed of its progress by providing regular updates on this situation on radio station KQSS 101.9 FM and on our website at www.azwater.com/alerts/. Should you wish additional information, please contact James Wilson, Superstition Division Manager, at (480) 982-2201, or write to Arizona Water Company, 2250 Highway 60, Suite D, Miami, Arizona 85539.
