[Verse 1] Strengthen the hands that tremble in the dust Steady the knees that have forgotten trust Say to the frightened heart, “Take courage now; Your God is coming—He has shown you how...” [Chorus 1] Lift up your eyes, let thy song prepare the way, the road to Zion where the weary rise and pray The Lord will come to save, the wronged will not be lost Hold fast to joy; He knows the way, He paid the cost [Instrumental Break] [Verse 2] The eyes once closed will open in that day The ears once stopped will hear the words he'll say The desert brings forth water, life runs deep Where dragons dwelt, green gardens awake from sleep [Chorus 2] Lift up your eyes, let thy song prepare the way, the road to Zion where the weary rise and pray The Lord will come to save, the wronged will not be lost Hold fast to joy; He knows the weight, He bore for us [Bridge] The redeemed called home with singing on their tongues Everlasting gladness crowns every one who comes Joy and gladness find them; sorrow leaves their sight No sighing follows, no grief to abide [Instrumental Break] [Final Chorus] Lift up your eyes, let thy song prepare the way A road through Zion where the weary arise and stay The Lord has come to save, the wronged never forgot Hold fast to joy; His promise is sure through every thought [Outro] Joy and gladness, take their place Sorrows forgotten, and fades away
