Pray for Memphis (Blues)

deep blues, electronic, plaintive sadness, strong bass

Until the Ghost of the White Deer, was driven west by Jackson's fears, and her world turned from red to black and white.
The river and the rails, then carried countless snowy bales,
stained with the blood of the bonded day and night.

So take a moment now, and bow your heads with me
as we all pray for the defenseless.
Lest we forget, her storied history,
won't you please pray for Memphis...

Her nation split in half as she fell in 1862,
but even freedom couldn't stop King cotton or the lumber.
then Yellow Jack brought her down, when he came to town,
and put 5,000 of her souls to slumber.

In that city forever torn, that's where the Blues were born,
beyond Crump's Row somewhere down on Beale.
Memphis Minnie, Frank and Furry, along with Sleepy John
joined Robert Leroy Johnson and a devil of a deal.

Three kings would follow soon, beneath that Memphis moon,
the first through the love of his Lucille.
The next filled our land with grace and his black velvet smile,
the last left us his dream and was taken all too soon.

So take a moment now, and bow your heads with me
we just may be running out of chances.
Lest we forget, her storied history,
won't you please... pray for Memphis...

Tonight I hear the sirens up on Hickory Hill,
and see a vision of Muddy Waters' tears.
He's hugging Gangsta Boo, Aretha and Isaac too,
while the City on the Bluff sleeps in fear.

But this is not our plan, nor who we're meant to be
though never were we masters of our fate.
Even on the brink, our Palace is still Pink
and we know that dreams always come to late.

So let's take a moment now,
and drop down to our knees,
Isn't it time we all came to our senses?
Lest we forget her storied history...
won't you pray?
Please pray... for Memphis.
Please pray... for Memphis.

Please
Pray for Memphis.
Please pray... for Memphis.
Please pray... for Memphis.
Please

Pray for Memphis.

She was born high on a bluff, at the top of that hill, overlooking those mighty muddy waters. Still buried in those mounds, if you listen quietly, You can hear the voices of her Chicsa sons and daughters.
