Tribute To... P.O.D. - Youth Of The Nation The end of my life as I know it If only I had seen it coming I would've kissed my mom farewell I never told her I loved her, or how much she meant Or thanked my dad for every chat And all the guidance he lent Oblivious, I followed my usual path Each day indistinguishable from the last Before I headed out to school But little did I know this day would break the mold Instead of facing a quiz I faced fate's final toll Perhaps I was naive, unaware of the warning signs Everyone else was fleeing, While I was caught in silence, blind. Gunshots rang out swiftly, the chaos didn't last I barely knew the boy involved Despite sitting near him in class Perhaps this child was crying out for help Or perhaps, for an instant He lost his sense of self Or perhaps he longed simply for an embrace Whatever the reason I understand it's due We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation Young Suzy, just twelve years old She had the world before her With opportunities untold Spending time with the boys, listening to their stories She may seem confident and loud But struggles with her self-worth She searches for love where it cannot be found, Repeating same stories, Different people around. She altered her path after her father vanished Sadly, he never assured her She was worthy of so much more Johnny was always the class clown Acting out in a desperate attempt To fit in and feel renowned He felt like an outsider and despite the effort he applied, thoughts of despair crossed his mind It's difficult when you're all alone Feeling lost and unknown He thought they'd notice once he'd gone Crossing that line, there's no retreat Made his statement to the world With the echo of a gun's beat We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation Who bears the blame for the lives tragedies claim? No matter the words you say They can't take the pain away Inside I ache, weary from deceit, No one knows the reason, Blind leading blind in defeat. I suppose that's how the narrative unfolds Will it ever become clear Someone must have the answers Surely, life holds more than this Surely, there's more beyond what I know We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation (we are, we are) We are the young voices of this generation We are the young hearts of this generation (we are, we are) We are the dreamers and fighters (the youth of this time) Embracing tomorrow with courage (we won't be confined) We are the seekers of answers (the youth of this time) Shaping the world with our voices (we won't be resigned) We are the dreamers and fighters (the youth of this time) youth of our era (We are) youth of our era (We are) youth of our era (We are)
