[Studio Intro] (Studio chatter – spoken) Eddie Thomas… Someday, Baby… take three. Alright fellas, let’s give it one more shot. One, two… one, two, three, four! [Band kicks in – handclaps and piano start the groove] [Intro] (Handclaps, doo-wop “ooh-wah” backing) Mmm… yeah… someday, baby… [Verse 1] Well I been singin’ on that corner, Every Saturday night, Dreamin’ ’bout the big stage lights, And holdin’ my baby tight. The fellas laugh and they point my way, Say “Boy, you’ll never go far,” But I just smile and keep on prayin’ — I know who I are. [Chorus] ’Cause someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Gonna make this ol’ town proud. Someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Gonna sing my heart out loud! When that rhythm starts to roll, They’ll feel it in their soul — Yeah, someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Wait and see me now! [Verse 2] Mama said, “Child, keep your faith, Don’t you chase no fool’s gold.” Daddy said, “Boy, if you got the gift, Then sing it till you’re old.” So I walk that line with a gospel sound, A little bit rock and roll, A whole lotta hope in a young man’s heart, And a dream that won’t let go. [Bridge – Doo-wop style vocal break] (Backing vocals: “Shoo-doo, shoo-doo, whoa-oh yeah”) Ooooh, I can see it now, Bright lights, singin’ proud, One day they’ll know my name somehow! [Chorus – Repeat] Someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Gonna make this ol’ town proud. Someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Gonna sing my heart out loud! When that rhythm starts to roll, They’ll feel it in their soul — Yeah, someday, baby, I’ll be somebody, Wait and see me now! [Outro – Demo fade] (Handclaps, upright piano riff) Yeah… mmm… Someday, baby… someday… (Soft tape hiss fades out)
