Cartoline
Dicono "spaghetti e sole", "cuore facile, mille parole". Corriamo a lavoro piano, col biglietto in mano. Eppure, stiamo a testa alta! Potremmo andare altrove, Viver meglio chissà dove. Ma restiamo e poi sogniamo: ci amiamo così come siamo. Non siamo cartoline, Non solo vicoli e piazze. Siamo fame, siamo orgoglio, siamo casa, siamo anch'errore. Non siamo cartoline... Danziamo come altalene... Fuori e dentro al letto. Siamo coccole e affetto... Siamo tempesta e difetti. Tempesta... E affetti... *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* ENGLISH TRANSLATION (this is not rhymed!) *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* They speak of "spaghetti and sunshine," "lightheartedness and endless chatter." They watch us through the window: seeing only Vespas and mandolins. They say we’re always partying, always ready for a toast. Yet we rush slowly to work, ticket clutched in hand. They don't see the wrinkles, the tears shed before dawn, the bills tallied on a napkin, the waiting souls with eyes cast down. We are not postcards, not just narrow alleys and town squares. We are not postcards, but truths held deep within the heart. We are not postcards, truth and sweetness—that is life. We are not postcards... we are love and affection. They think we’re all the same, wearing a single, stitched-on label. But everyone has their own hunger, every table its own red wine. Some laugh to keep from breaking, some count the days until payday, some offer bread and kindness, even when they have none for themselves. They don't feel the morning air, when breath catches in the throat. They don't see the mothers weeping and hoping for the future. And yet, we hold our heads high! We are not postcards, we are anger and flaws. We are the winter sea, and the Thursday market. We are a voice that cracks, then starts up again. We are beautiful—truly— not just in how we appear. We could go elsewhere, live better—who knows where? But we stay and we dream: loving ourselves just as we are. We are not postcards, not just narrow alleys and town squares. We are not postcards, flip them over: "Hello, all is well here." We are not postcards, read between the lines—read of the struggles. We are not postcards... we are dust and life. Look at us more closely, slowly, without choosing the color. We are hunger, we are pride, we are home, we are also mistakes. We are not postcards... We dance like swings... In and out of bed. We are cuddles and affection... We are a storm and flaws. Storm... And affection...
