How to Get a Leg Up in Life - Part 1 (Part -2)

V4

How to Get a Leg Up in Life The Bridge to the Top How do you get a leg up in life? Start by being in a tough place — the toughest of all tough places — and find yourself there with nothing but your best friend. Where is your tough place? Where might you find yourself with your best friend? We never set out to climb this mountain. Not really. The summit was never the goal, was it? It was the idea of it — the challenge, the promise, the illusion of something greater waiting for us above the clouds. We imagined ourselves as conquerors, laughing and fearless, pulling each other up over every impossible ledge. The mountain was supposed to be a story, a memory to tell later, wrapped in the warmth of survival and shared glory. But the truth was never in the climb; it was in getting there. Getting there started with small decisions — everyday choices that felt harmless at the time. We joked about packing light, about needing nothing but each other to survive. Who needs books, guides, or maps when you have determination? Who needs preparation when you have faith in the strength of two best friends? Getting there was pretending the mountain was just another adventure, a metaphor for something grander. We didn’t think about the frostbite, the hunger, the way the cold could dig into your bones and hollow you out from the inside. We didn’t imagine the winds screaming louder than our courage, or the snow blinding us to every escape. Getting there was a series of lies we told ourselves. “We’ll be fine,” we said, “as long as we stick together.” We believed it, too. The kind of belief that comes from not knowing what you don’t know. A blind faith that only ignorance can breed. We didn’t see the cracks in our armour, the quiet fragility beneath our boldness. We didn’t think about what happens when the mountain stops being a metaphor and starts being real. Getting there was a story we built together, one choice at a time. A tale of unearned confidence and shared delusion, cemented by the kind of love that blinds you to the edge you’re walking. And by the time we realized where we were — truly realized — it was already too late. We were here. On the mountain. The hardest place of all wasn’t the summit or the climb; it was the space between our illusions and the raw, unflinching truth. Getting there meant crossing that bridge, tearing through the veil of everything we pretended to be and staring directly at what we’d become. Two best friends, together in the most unforgiving place imaginable. We didn’t plan for this. We didn’t prepare. And now, the mountain demands an answer to a question we didn’t even know how to ask. What will you give? The air grows colder. The wind howls louder. Somewhere beneath this shimmering façade of beauty lies the truth we can’t ignore: the mountain doesn’t care. It only waits. And so, step by step, we cross the bridge. Not to the summit, but to the real mountaintop — the one where we face ourselves. And each other.
