Jung defines the Syzygy as the archetypal union of contrasexual opposites. In men it manifests as the Anima, the feminine soul-image; in women as the Animus, the masculine spirit-image. Both belong to the collective unconscious and first appear through intense projections onto the opposite sex, colored by the parental imago. When unconscious they cause possession: over-emotionality and irrationality in men, rigid opinions and argumentativeness in women. Once integrated they function as Psychopomps, mediators that bridge the Ego to the deeper unconscious and the Self. ********************************************************************* [Verse 1] She coils 'neath this armor forged in pride A velvet river ripping up the tide With mother’s eyes she steps into his blood Anima calls with the force of a flood [Verse 2] He storms inside her mind with steel command Opinion’s blade cuts through shifting sand With father’s hands he rules by righteous flame Animus rises, feeds the hidden crave [Chorus] (Syzygy!)
