[Verse 1] They called him Johnny Shut In Sealed up in that house People crossed the street When he came around town He’d say your brother’s lying Before the words were said He knew your shame by Tuesday And your secrets by Friday red [Pre-Chorus] So they left him in the shadows Left him with the rain A porch light, a mailbox And a name nobody’d say [Chorus] Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In He heard the hurt before the cry Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In Came back when the bridge was by (Johnny Shut In) (Johnny Shut In) And he brought that boy home alive [Verse 2] An autistic kid went missing Couldn’t shout, couldn’t weep Little sneakers in the mud And a house too quiet to sleep Mothers searched the river Fathers checked the road Then Johnny stood at the window Like he felt a hand on his soul [Pre-Chorus] He touched that ache in the distance Like a wire in the dark And he knew that child was broken But still beating in the spark [Chorus] Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In He heard the hurt before the cry Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In Came back when the bridge was by (Johnny Shut In) (Johnny Shut In) And he brought that boy home alive [Bridge] Under that bridge he found him Cars cutting overhead Pinned by a twisted railing Dust and gravel, red and black Johnny knelt down easy No fear in his hands The boy saw him and settled Like he finally found land [Chorus] Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In He heard the hurt before the cry Johnny Shut In Johnny Shut In Came back when the bridge was by (Johnny Shut In) (Johnny Shut In) Now the whole town knows his name [Outro] They left the curtains open They left the latch unturned Johnny Shut In walked to daylight And the whole damn town learned (Johnny Shut In) (Johnny Shut In)
