I felt a Funeral, in my Brain - Emily Dickinson

V5.5

[Intro] (The song begins with a low, vibrating Kargyraa throat singing drone. A deep, sorrowful Morin Khuur melody enters, sweeping and dark. Distant, slow drum hits mimic a funeral march.) [Verse 1] (Lead Vocal - Deep, gravelly Kargyraa throat singing) I felt a Funeral, in my Brain, And Mourners to and fro Kept treading - treading - till it seemed That Sense was breaking through - [Refrain] (Child Chorus - Ethereal, high-pitched, and haunting) Treading - treading... Sense was breaking through... [Verse 2] (Rhythmic throat singing, the percussion becomes more like a steady, muffled drum beat) And when they all were seated, A Service, like a Drum - Kept beating - beating - till I thought My mind was going numb - [Verse 3] (Music intensifies. Strong Morin Khuur stabs. Lead vocal becomes more aggressive) And then I heard them lift a Box And creak across my Soul With those same Boots of Lead, again, Then Space - began to toll, [Chorus] (Full Ensemble: Deep throat singing drones and the Child Chorus singing in a grand, epic, and terrifying harmony) As all the Heavens were a Bell, And Being, but an Ear, And I, and Silence, some strange Race, Wrecked, solitary, here - [Bridge] (The Morin Khuur plays a high, screeching melody. Whistling Khöömei overtones create a sense of vast, empty space. The rhythm stops suddenly, leaving only a drone.) [Climax] (Sudden explosion of heavy percussion and rapid Morin Khuur bowing) And then a Plank in Reason, broke, And I dropped down, and down - And hit a World, at every plunge, And Finished knowing - then - [Outro] (The music slows down to a fading, low-frequency throat singing vibration. The child chorus whispers the final words over a weeping Morin Khuur.) And Finished knowing - then - Dropped down... Down... (The sound of a final, distant tolling bell fades into wind.) [End]
