(Verse 1) It started with a paper plate of fudge in late December A quiet shadow on the porch I still remember Two apartments, one shared wall, and winter in the air I was keeping to my orbit, taking off from everywhere Then you smiled in the doorway with that easy, steady light And suddenly the landing strip was clear into the night. (Chorus) ’Cause I didn’t have to fly above the clouds to find the sun It was waiting right beside me when the day was done From a hallway full of silence to a room where love belongs Now your laugh is in the background of my favorite songs No more watching through the window, no more miles away I moved next door to always, and I’m gonna stay. (Verse 2) Now there’s strawberry jam on the kitchen counter floor Matching little footprints running through the door Mia’s laughing in the hallway, Alaina’s got a story to tell And you’re standing in the chaos, knowing every secret well I used to train for battle, built a fortress out of stone Now I’m soft inside the harbor of the place we call our home. (Bridge) Underneath the Texas string lights, surrounded by the crew Sarah’s raising up a glass, and I’m looking straight at you With a velvet ring box resting where the coffee used to sit Every piece of my crazy life, you made the puzzle fit. Six-foot-one and steady, holding down my ground The best thing that I ever found. (Outro) Yeah, I moved next door to always... Right next door to you. And I’m gonna stay.
