2 Steel Sight: That Spark I Chase (A Mistborn Song)

A dark theatrical piece in E♭ minor, 70 BPM, Hybrid of cinematic score and sung recitative (half-sung, half-spoken), Instrumentation: deep strings, timpani, metallic textures, faint ambient choir “oohs” (no lyrics), Three vocal parts: • Bendal – baritone, aged and gravelly, • Kelsier – tenor, energetic and cocky, • Reen – whisper-tenor, ghostlike, Structure moves from solemn ritual → high-energy chase → quiet dread, End on a sustained low string note to flow into Track 3 “Indispensable, ”

Creator's note: This song picks up in chapter 1 with the thieving crew of Vin, Theron, and Camon scamming the Canton of Finance out of Boxings (money.) Bendal, The Steel Inquisitor, was there that night hunting for an Allomancer of a particular pedigree. When Bendal and Obligator Laird followed the thieving crew back to their lair, Kelsier and Dockson distracted them to allow their getaway. This is that scene. I hope you enjoy Mistborn in an interesting format.

Steel Sight: That Spark I Chase

[Narrator]
The deal is struck, the Canton sleeps
But two shadows follow "her" through the mist

[Verse 1 - Scene Setting]
[Bendal, The Steel Inquisitor]
Ash fell from the sky tonight…
It stains the streets black like sin.
She burned her "luck" — I felt it flare,
The black spark within her skin.

[Bendal – spoken:]
Soothing station six was right.
A half-breed hides among them.
And I will find her —
by the Lord Ruler’s hand, I swear it.

[Bendal – sung:]
Get inside before the mist comes… [mocking tone]
They whisper fear while I see flame.
A gutter girl, a hidden name,
Her Father’s doom to be her shame.

[Verse 2 - The Attack]
[Kelsier – sung:]
Good Evenin’, Inquisitor.
How about a chase, you and I?
Care to catch the Survivor of Hathsin tonight?

[Bendal – snarls, then sings:]
You dare mock my holy hunt? Me?

[Kelsier]
You just got hit by a coin or three!

[metal clatter, coins ricochet in rhythm]

[Bendal – furious:]
You’ll BURN for this heresy!

[Kelsier – laughing, sings:]
Only thing burning tonight is your "Steel" tryin’ to catch me!

[Bridge – THE CHASE]
[Narrator]
Across the rooftops,
Through the ash and flame—
One hunts for glory,
One hunts for a name.

[Bendal – half-sung, breathless:]
Gone through smoke, I chase the spark,
Each coin shot echoes in the dark.
I’ll drag you back before the dawn,
The Lord will bless the one who’s won.

[Bendal – sung softly:]
Gone… he’s gone…
But she’s still out there. Yes.
The girl of "brass," — that spark of him.
I’ll find her yet — the flame I crave,
The one the "Survivor" decided to save…

[Outro]

[Reen – whisper-sung:]
"The surest way to stay alive…
is to make yourself ...indispensable."
