After hours adrift upon a furious sea, Skörta, Torstein, Mikell, Mikki and the jarl finally reached solid ground. Yet relief never truly came. Dark volcanic stone stretched endlessly beneath a sky of pale clouds. Snow drifted across the landscape in thin ribbons, while distant mountains rose beyond columns of steam escaping from the earth itself. There were no forests, no villages, only silence and the strange feeling that this land belonged to another age. As Skörta walked, an unsettling familiarity settled within her. Every ridge, every gust of wind, every shadow upon the horizon felt known to her, as if she had visited this place long before setting foot upon it. Then she looked toward the sky. Several ravens circled overhead. A faint smile crossed her face. "It is here." The others turned toward her. "We are in the right place." The certainty in her voice left no room for doubt. They continued onward until the jarl moved beside her. "My queen, I believe I understand certain things about you now." Skörta glanced at him. "And I think you should know that it changes nothing." The jarl smiled faintly. "I have seen enough. The visions. The signs. You are an Andfuglsjá." He paused. "Some would fear such a gift. Others would call it sorcery. I see only a woman carrying a burden few could endure." For a moment, genuine emotion appeared in Skörta's eyes. She gently took his arm. "My father misjudged you." "Did he?" "He believed you followed only the Green Faith." The jarl looked toward the snowy ground. "The Green Faith was necessary. It brought stability to our lands." "I know. But I also knew there was always a part of you that still believed in the old gods." A small smile appeared beneath his beard. "Perhaps." Skörta laughed softly. "Then we are more alike than either of us admitted. We both live with secrets because some truths are more dangerous than lies." The jarl silently nodded. Torstein soon joined them. "My queen, should we not focus on finding the others?" Before she could answer, Mikell spoke. "And where would you even begin? This land is vast enough to hide an army." The jarl stopped walking. "I do not care how vast it is. Helena, Bruno and the others are my family. I will not abandon them." Skörta nodded immediately. "Nor will I." Nearby, Mikki was entirely absorbed by a small white snowflower growing between two stones. "I may be able to help," Skörta said. Everyone looked toward her. "The ravens are strong here. So are the currents between worlds. I could perform a Hrafnsálbinding." Torstein frowned. "My queen, that ritual is dangerous. You have already sacrificed much." "Torstein." Her voice remained calm. "I am no longer a child. I understand the risk." Mikell raised a hand. "There may be another way." Even Mikki looked up from his flower. "I believe Johannes is connected to Fenrir. Or perhaps to Fenrir's sons." From several paces away came Mikki's amused laughter. "Oh yes. Sköll and Hati are certainly involved. Hihi." Mikell continued. "My eye sometimes allows me to glimpse what Loki wishes to know. And few things interest Loki more than his family." Skörta immediately understood. "If Johannes is tied to Fenrir, Loki could find him." "Exactly." "And if Loki finds him, you could discover where Johannes is." Mikell nodded. Torstein folded his arms. "The problem is that Loki would find him as well." "And nobody can predict what Loki would do with that knowledge," added the jarl. A heavy silence followed. Finally, Skörta shook her head. "No. The risk is too great." She watched the ravens drifting above the frozen plains. "Give me half a day." Her gaze followed their flight. "This land is a Hrafnheimr. I can feel it." She placed a hand against her chest. "I can perform the ritual." The jarl rested a reassuring hand upon her arm. "Are you certain?" She answered with a simple nod. The group resumed its march toward a rocky shelter visible in the distance. As they walked, Mikki drifted beside Mikell with his usual grin. "It would have been far more entertaining to watch your eye wrestle with Loki's curiosity." Mikell rolled his eye toward the heavens. "You truly are a mystery." "I know." Mikell chuckled before looking ahead toward the queen's silhouette, framed by wind and circling ravens. "Let her do what she must." His voice grew quieter. "If we have come this far, it is because we learned to trust her." For a long moment, nobody replied. Beneath the endless northern sky, their silence felt very much like agreement. 💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍💙🤍 Haaah... Kaldr vindr andar... Fjarri... fjarri... Hrafnar vaka yfir mér Óóóh... Vaka... (vaka...)
