25,000 Steps and Nowhere to Go

V6

[Intro] Twenty-five thousand steps. My watch is impressed. My feet have filed a complaint. And somehow... I'm right back where I started. Cool Chris. Let's walk. [Verse 1] Six in the morning and I'm already moving, Shoes hit the floor, little bass line grooving. Down one hallway, turn, come back, Forgot what I needed, so I double that lap. Up the stairs, downstairs, across the floor, Walk past the same exact spot twenty times more. Watch on my wrist says, "Man, you're doing great!" My knees sent a memo saying, "We need to renegotiate." Got miles on miles without leaving the place, Sweat on my forehead, determination on my face. Somebody asks, "Chris, where you headed?" Excellent question. I'll let you know when I get there. [Chorus] Twenty-five thousand steps and nowhere to go, Feet moving fast, but my soul moving slow. Round and around, putting miles on the floor, Sometimes being busy ain't moving forward. My watch says, "Congratulations!" My feet say, "Please sit down." Twenty-five thousand steps and I'm still hanging around. I've been moving all day, but here's what I wanna know: Am I going somewhere... or just really good at go? [Verse 2] We love looking busy, busy looks alive, Calendar packed from nine until five. Check another box, then another one too, Till checking little boxes becomes what we do. Run toward money, run toward praise, Run around worried we're wasting our days. Run from silence, run from doubt, Run so long we forget what we're running about. And I'm guilty too, I can hustle with the best, Then wonder why movement never gave my spirit rest. Maybe a full day can still leave you empty, Maybe doing everything ain't the same as doing plenty. Maybe the question at the end of the road ain't "How far did you walk?" It's... "What did you carry, and where did it go?" [Chorus] Twenty-five thousand steps and nowhere to go, Feet moving fast, but my soul moving slow. Round and around, putting miles on the floor, Sometimes being busy ain't moving forward. My watch says, "Congratulations!" My feet say, "That's enough." Twenty-five thousand steps through ordinary stuff. I've been moving all day, but here's what I wanna know: Am I going somewhere... or just really good at go? [Breakdown] Hold up. My feet had a productive day. My soul would like a meeting. ... Apparently it's been trying to get on my calendar. [Verse 3] So I stopped for a minute, which felt kinda strange, World kept spinning. Nothing seemed to change. Didn't fall apart. Didn't miss my chance. Turns out life survives when I interrupt the dance. Said, "Lord, I've been moving, but where am I bound? I've covered a whole lot of distance just walking around." And maybe He smiled at my twenty-five K, Like, "Son, I never asked you to outrun today." Walk with a purpose. Rest when you should. Take the longer road if the longer road is good. Love who you pass. Notice their face. Don't get so busy moving that you walk right past grace. 'Cause progress ain't measured by miles alone, And sometimes the shortest walk can bring you home. [Final Chorus] Twenty-five thousand steps, now I think I know, It matters less how fast than the direction I go. I can circle the building, put miles on the floor, But if I'm walking with purpose, then it's something more. My watch says, "Congratulations!" My feet say, "We survived!" My soul says, "Hey Chris... nice to finally arrive." So tomorrow I'll keep walking, probably twenty-five more, But I'm taking God with me... and I'm noticing the doors. [Outro] Twenty-five thousand steps. Eleven-point-something miles. And my car... hasn't moved. ... That's ridiculous. See you tomorrow.
