[Verse 1] A sharp word falls quick Watch as It cuts the air Like a splintered branch Yet It seemed hardly fair But under that thick bark The sap still deeply flows One person thoughtlessly acts And then it clearly shows [Chorus] Oh we need to Imitate our Father Don’t hold on so tight To the weight of all the anger that we find with in this world's night Jehovah lets the rain Gently wash our wrongs away Oh Forgive Oh forgive—be more like you my father Is what I pray [Verse 2] The moon looks down It has seen all our flaws Our stumbles Trips Even personal unwritten laws Yet the night stars still blink in endless skies Just like Jehovah God's love Why It never dies [Chorus] Oh we need to Imitate our Father Don’t hold on so tight To the weight of all the anger that we find with in this world's night Jehovah lets the rain Gently wash our wrongs away Oh Forgive Oh forgive—be more like you my father Is what I pray [Bridge] If our hearts are made of stone They will never be able to self mend Jehovah's love is the only thing that can carve away, smooth down, and polish us till our very end Then we think A fleeting thought Say A careless word Sinners one and all, yet with his help we still rise As He had already planned [Chorus] Oh we need to Imitate our Father Don’t hold on so tight To the weight of all the anger that we find with in this world's night Jehovah lets the rain Gently wash our wrongs away Oh Forgive Oh forgive—be more like you my father Is what I pray
