Slothson said, As Sherlock watched the woods ahead. "There’s one I’ve marked, but something’s amiss, A missing thread, something that doesn’t fit." "Raven holds the key, I pray If she survives someday to speak." Slothson nodded, slow and grave, "Til then, more clues to sift and save." "I'll take the peacock, you take the sheep," They split like fog across the deep. Two shadows hunting in the snow, For truths that only the guilty know. Sherlock found Madock, smooth and sly, A sheep with bedroom in his eye. The ewes all swooned, their voices light- Madock just smiled, dazzling white. "Were you on duty, murder night?" "Of course I was, the logs are right." His voice was velvet, touched with smoke And Sherlock sniffed the ash and oak. Pine on pants, torch in his clothes, Too careless for a man who knows. "He’s one of them, Cult of the Egg" the owl surmised, "Cults wear masks but truth wears no disguise." Inside the office, reels rewound, Madock clicked and time spun ‘round. "You’ve seen this footage, so you claim, But missed the back gate in this frame." There he was, caught checking locks, Before the hour death had knocked. "Wish I could help you more," he lied, Then leaned in and muttered low, as Sherlock sighed. "I swear I saw him. Kyora, I mean After his death, like some cursed dream. Just for a moment, by the lift, A ghost, a trick, a shadow shift." [Meanwhile, Across the Lodge...] Slothson faced a louder test, In sequins, plumes, and feathered chest. Potoo Phonic, peacock proud, Shrieked his call both sharp and loud: "Puhhh-CAWWWWWK!" Slothson flinched but held his stance, The bird, embarrassed, did a dance. "Sorry, doc, you startled me My reflex comes from pedigree." "Did you see or hear that night, When death crept in beneath the light?" Potoo's face grew oddly keen, His eyes like spotlights, sharp and green. "That cat, Hog, and the yellow Puff Were sneaking 'round when things got rough. Outside the lodge, all hushed and strange, I told ‘em both to clear the range." "An hour ‘fore Kyora’s fall, They skulked like thieves along the wall. They said they’d lost their way somehow But guilt can stink beneath a vow." "An hour ‘fore Kyora’s fall, They skulked like thieves along the wall. They said they’d lost their way somehow But guilt can stink beneath a vow." And so more names joined in twisted thread, Of secrets whispered, truths half-dead. The peacock squawked, the sheep oozed charm But still, who wielded death's strong arm?
