[Intro] [soft tape hiss Crickets Kids laughing far away] (ohh, ohh) (yeah) [Verse 1] Dust motes dancing in the sunset glow Another perfect night Just taking it slow Cheap beer sweating in our calloused hands Your old blue jeans Ripped at the hems [Pre-Chorus] We never thought about the ticking clock Just barefoot gravel Talking on that rock [Chorus] We were golden in those summer days Lost in a sweet and sunny haze (woah) Shouting dumb jokes into the sky Fireflies flickering as time went by We were golden in those summer days Golden in those summer days (hey) And even as the years keep rolling wide You're still the friend right by my side [Verse 2] Movie lines we stole We knew every cue Singing out of tune in that old canoe Flip-flop races down the dusty lane Thunder in the distance We just stayed [Pre-Chorus] We carved our names where the willow bends Swore one day we'd come back again [Chorus] We were golden in those summer days Lost in a sweet and sunny haze (woah) Shouting dumb jokes into the sky Fireflies flickering as time went by We were golden in those summer days Golden in those summer days (hey) And even as the years keep rolling wide You're still the friend right by my side [Bridge] [soft wind chime shimmer Distant dog bark] Now it's wedding rings and midnight feeds Bills on the table Phones that ring But one old song And it all rewinds Back to that hill Back to that time (ooh) [Chorus] We were golden in those summer days Lost in a sweet and sunny haze (woah-oh) Shouting dumb jokes into the sky Fireflies flickering as time went by We were golden in those summer days Golden in those summer days (hey, hey) And even as the years keep rolling wide You're still the friend right by my side We were golden in those summer days Still golden when I see your face (woah)
