They were separated from their families, executed and buried in mass graves. The UN peacekeeping force and Dutchbat were present, while NATO provided air support under UN authority, but the protection failed and Srebrenica fell. Even today, the search continues. The perpetrators moved bodies from primary graves into secondary and tertiary graves to conceal the crime, scattering remains across many locations. Every July, newly identified victims are still laid to rest at Potočari. In July 2026, newly identified remains were again buried, 31 years after the genocide. Families and investigators continue even today searching for the remains of those still missing. TRANSLATION OF LYRICS The original lyrics were written by Šaban Gadžo, a Bosnian poet and writer When the spring blossoms When the world is filled with fragrance The soul cries out with longing Long ago we parted This sky above us Is a shadow of the veil A tower in the heavens Is within our hearts Spring lives within us When it melts through tears And even the desert blooms Offering a glimpse of Paradise When the spring blossoms When the world is filled with fragrance The soul cries out with longing Long ago we parted This sky above us Is a shadow of the veil A tower in the heavens Is within our hearts Spring lives within us When it melts through tears And even the desert blooms Offering a glimpse of Paradise When the spring blossoms When the world is filled with fragrance The soul cries out with longing Long ago we parted This sky above us Is a shadow of the veil A tower in the heavens Is within our hearts Spring lives within us When it melts through tears And even the desert blooms Offering a glimpse of Paradise
