As he steps through the door, I'm holding my breath. Every sick, twisted thought he placed in my head. Started in the living room, then moved to the bed, Words cut like razors, love stained to red. Am I flying or falling? Dangerous eyes, fingers pressed to the neck, I'm tasting the earth—life, death, and regret. Spiraling 'round me, the cycle repeats. And when I'm alone, the silence cuts so deep. The feeling's profound, I spread my arms out, face to the heavens, let me savor these seconds. Yet I'm longing for connection. Can you hear it? It's calling! I'm standing at the edge. The abyss, resounding (calling), this longing for the end. Terrifying thoughts, I don't have control. Am I flying or falling? Well, maybe it's both. A step into nothing, hopeful wings made of flame, Is it freedom or madness that's calling my name? The night holds its breath as the earth disappears, Swallowed by silence, consumed by my fears. I am the LIGHTNING that’s striking the spark, Chains burn to embers as I step through the dark. Streetlights flicker, his shadow's not me I’m flying, I’m free—! I was never his to hold. Can you hear it? It's calling! I'm standing at the edge. The abyss, resounding (calling), this longing for the end. Terrifying thoughts, I don’t have control. Am I flying or falling? Well, maybe it’s both. I was never his to hold. Song backstory: What can I say? If you know, you know. I am a survivor of abuse, and although this song isn't specific to my own story, I pulled from my experiences to write these lyrics. This song is meant to shine light on the struggle of women who are trying to leave an abusive situation but feel trapped and scared of what the future might bring if they break ties with their abuser. Be it man, woman, or child, all humans deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I will never again allow someone to treat me as less than human and I hope that you won't, either.
