[Intro] [fast acoustic guitar strumming] [drums kick in] [harmonica hook] [Verse 1] Got off work at half past five, had no reason to go home, Billy pulled up in that old Ford, said, “Come on, don’t sit alone.” Had ten dollars in my pocket, half a tank and nowhere right, so I threw my boots up on the dash and said, “No plans tonight.” [Pre-Chorus] No map, no clock, no reason to be right. [Female backing vocals] No plans tonight! [Chorus] No plans tonight, no plans tonight, got a little gas, got a little money, and the moon looks right. No plans tonight, no plans tonight, [Female backing vocals] No plans tonight! Come ride with me, we got no plans tonight. [Harmonica Turnaround] [harmonica hook] [acoustic guitars push harder] [short drum fill] [Verse 2] Found the girls outside the roadhouse, laughing underneath the sign, Jenny said, “You boys look useless.” I said, “That suits us just fine.” Mary climbed into the backseat, Katie stole my hat outright, five minutes later everybody had no plans tonight. [Pre-Chorus] No map, no clock, no reason to be right. [Instrumental Break] [harmonica takes a lively solo] [acoustic guitars drive the rhythm] [bass and drums stay tight] [female backing vocals clap and answer short phrases] [Verse 3] We danced until they closed the place, then nobody wanted home, so we followed some old county road just to see where it would go. Watched the sunrise from a hillside, somebody passed the coffee ’round, Jenny sleeping on my shoulder, Billy snoring on the ground. [Breakdown] [acoustic guitar and bass only] Ain’t every night supposed to matter, ain’t every road supposed to lead. Sometimes all you really need is... [drums crash back in] ...nowhere else to be. [Final Chorus] No plans tonight, no plans tonight, got a little gas, got a little money, and the morning looks bright. No plans tonight, no plans tonight, [Female backing vocals] No plans tonight! Come ride with me, we got no plans tonight. No plans tonight! [Female backing vocals] No plans tonight! No plans tonight! [Female backing vocals] No plans tonight! [Outro] [harmonica hook] [fast acoustic strumming] [band hits a tight final chord]
