[Verse 1] Pastel hallway, plastic lawn Someone left the Easter on Paper flowers, painted sun I was only looking for fun Pink ones hiding by the stairs Blue ones turning up in pairs Then beneath a plastic tree Something yellow waited for me [Pre-Chorus] Pick it up Turn it twice Hold it to the painted light Little warm Little strange Did you move? ... Okay. [Chorus] Something in the egg went tap-tap-tap I tapped twice and it tapped right back Held it to my ear and what do you know? Something in the egg said don't let go Tap-tap-tap What could you be? You're making this considerably harder for me I came for candy, that was the plan Now I'm taking home whatever you am [Playful Violin & Glockenspiel Break] [Verse 2] No instructions, not a word Nothing saying beast or bird No return address in sight Just a tiny glow at night Set you gently in my basket Tried my very best not to ask it Why you wobble when I walk Or why I think I heard you knock [Pre-Chorus] Hold you still Count to three One for you and two for me Three goes— Tap! There you go You're not subtle Just so you know [Chorus] Something in the egg went tap-tap-tap I tapped twice and it tapped right back Held it to my ear and what do you know? Something in the egg said don't let go Tap-tap-tap What could you be? You're making this considerably harder for me I came for candy, that was the plan Now I'm taking home whatever you am [Fast, Playful Violin Solo] [Bridge] Maybe you're enormous Maybe you're absurd Maybe you're a flower That somehow learned to chirp Maybe you're just empty And I'm talking to myself— [egg taps] Well. That rules that out. [Pizzicato Strings & Glockenspiel Interlude] [Verse 3] Pastel hallway, plastic lawn I suppose we're moving on Didn't plan to leave with two Didn't plan on finding you Funny how you find a friend Before you know you've found one yet So stay warm inside your shell You don't have to tell me yet [Final Chorus] Something in the egg goes tap-tap-tap Now I smile when it taps right back Hold you to my heart and off we go Where we're headed, neither of us knows Tap-tap-tap Stay close to me Whatever you're becoming, you can take your time and be I came for candy, that was the plan Now I'm going home with— ...whatever you am. [Music Drops to Glockenspiel & Pizzicato] [Hatching Verse] Little crack across the shell Then another—well, oh well Something fluffy, something white Tiny wings tucked in too tight Two dark eyes looked up at me Like we'd met already somehow I said, "Hi... whatever you are." You licked my nose. ...Oh. Wow. [Violin Bursts Back In] There you were beneath the shell Little wings and little tail I went looking for an Easter egg And came back home with Bella [Joyful Violin & Glockenspiel Flourish] [Outro] Tap-tap Tap-tap-tap Guess I know Who you are. Goodnight, Bella. [Joyful Expressive Violin Outro]
