[Spoken Intro] I said my morning prayer. Then I got up before the Lord could answer. Apparently, I had called heaven to leave a message. [Verse 1] I thanked Him for my blessings, Asked Him what I ought to do; I named the folks who needed help And added one or two. I closed it in the proper way, Then hurried down the hall; The Lord was still upon the line— But I had made the call. [Chorus] I put the Lord on hold; I had righteous things to do: A lesson and a meeting, And a scripture chapter too. I asked Him for direction, Then rushed off on my own; I put the Lord on hold— And left Him there alone. [Verse 2] Samuel said, “Speak, Lord; Thy servant heareth Thee.” I said, “Speak, Lord—but make it quick; My schedule disagrees.” Nephi said the Spirit Would show me what to do; But hearing takes a quiet heart, And maybe silence too. [Bridge] This isn’t less devotion; It’s making room to hear. The Savior’s voice is soft enough That hurry makes it disappear. [Final Chorus] I won’t put the Lord on hold; I’ll be still when I am through. I’ll leave a little silence For His Spirit to come through. The prayer is not completed Just because I say “amen.” Perhaps that is the moment When the Lord can answer then. [Spoken Outro] Prayer offered? Check. Stayed to listen? Please continue to hold.
