Japanese Cherry Blossom Viewing Etiquette

+ Show full styles

There are many ways to enjoy it: with colleagues, family, friends, a romantic partner, or even by yourself. It might be a little chilly during cherry blossom season, so even if you think it will be warm, bring a light jacket. Please separate your trash and put it in the trash cans provided at the cherry blossom viewing area or take it home with you. Do not break the branches of the cherry tree or pluck the petals. Cherry trees are fragile, so please refrain from hanging from them or climbing on them, as they may break and cause injury. Open fires and other forms of fire may be prohibited in some locations, so be sure to check the rules of the area where you plan to view the event. Sake pairs well with beer, but Japanese beer is also delicious and served well chilled, so be careful not to drink too much. Sake, in particular, is easy to drink because it contains sugar, and before you know it, you might find yourself unable to stand. Be careful not to drink too much alcohol and avoid disturbing others. In particular, be mindful of the volume of your voice. When reserving a spot, please avoid occupying more space than necessary. Land in Japan is limited.
