A Fox's Meadow Song (T.I.V. Original Irish Folktale (600 followers party)

V5.5

[Soft Warm Violin Intro} [Verse 1] By the gorse and the thorn, in the hour before rain, a fox cub sat still with the damp on his mane. His father came near with a leaf in his jaw, said, "Hush now, my child, tonight I have a song, just for you." [Verse 2] He pointed to rushes all silver with dew, to cranes in the bog and the blackbird and the blue. "The meadow is listening, holding its breath, it teaches the feet and it teaches the chest." [Pre-Chorus] So the cub leaned close to his father's low song, and the grass bowed down like it knew all along. The old fox smiled wide in the wind on the hill, and the small heart within him went quiet and still. [Chorus] Sing, meadow, sing for the fox cub's ear Sing, meadow, sing let the whole field hear Sing, meadow, sing through the clover and dew Sing, meadow, sing and he'll carry it through (carry it through) [Verse 3] There were kings in the heather and ants in the fern, there were secrets in puddles that a child could discern. His father sang softly of burrow and bone, of moon over furrows and roots underground. [Verse 4] He sang of the dawn when the lark lands on the gate, of the fox in the bracken who never comes late. He sang of the foxfire that skips in the dark, and the cub heard his name like a lantern-heart spark. [Pre-Chorus] So the cub leaned close to his father's low song, and the grass bowed down like it knew all along. The old fox smiled wide in the wind on the hill, and the small heart within him went quiet and still. [Chorus] Sing, meadow, sing for the fox cub's ear Sing, meadow, sing let the whole field hear Sing, meadow, sing through the clover and dew Sing, meadow, sing and he'll carry it through (carry it through) [Bridge] When winter comes hunting with its white, empty hands, your song is the doorway that opens the land. Keep it beside you, keep it in your chest, and the meadow will find you when you need it the most. [Final Chorus] Sing, meadow, sing for the fox cub's ear Sing, meadow, sing let the whole field hear Sing, meadow, sing through the clover and dew Sing, meadow, sing and he'll carry it through (carry it through) Sing, meadow, sing while the evening grows blue Sing, meadow, sing his father's song when he is gone he'll remember carried in his heart, through and through
