[Title: LET GO OF THE GAVEL] [Intro] There it is. Face gets hot. Chest gets tight. Hands get ready. Before the words come flying— WAIT. What happened? What did shame add? [Verse 1] Somebody says— that hurt me. Shame hears— YOU ARE THE HURT. Somebody says— you were wrong. Shame hears— YOU ARE WRONG ALL THE WAY THROUGH. Somebody shows you mud on your face. Shame screams— BREAK THE MIRROR BEFORE THE MIRROR BREAKS YOU. [Silence] Wait. Maybe there's mud. That's all. MUD IS NOT THE FACE. [Pre-Chorus] I don't have to be innocent of everything to be loved. I don't have to win the trial to survive the truth. I can look. I can listen. I can say— THAT WAS ME. [Chorus] LET GO OF THE GAVEL. If I was wrong— I can say wrong. If I hurt you— I can make it right. Correction is not rejection. One thing I did doesn't have to become the name of my whole life. LET GO OF THE GAVEL. Tell the truth. Let conviction do its work. Then don't let shame turn repentance INTO A LIFE SENTENCE. [Verse 2] Shame made defense feel like survival. If I'm wrong— I'm bad. If I'm bad— you'll leave. If you'll leave— I better fight until somebody else becomes guilty. So every correction turns into a courtroom. Every question needs a defense. Every mirror becomes an enemy. Every apology feels like exile. [Silence] But what if I can be wrong and you still stay? What if I can say— YOU'RE RIGHT. I'M SORRY. I HURT YOU. WITHOUT DISAPPEARING? [Chorus] LET GO OF THE GAVEL. I don't have to make you wrong so I can survive being wrong. I don't have to explain every word. I don't have to fight every mirror. I can confess. I can turn. I can repair. I can learn. And still keep the chair. LET GO OF THE GAVEL. [Long Instrumental] [Bridge] Here is shame's trick— It would rather prove innocence than receive mercy. Because mercy means admitting— I NEEDED IT. [Silence] But the Book already knew. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: [Silence] ALL HAVE SINNED. So why am I performing innocence? BEING JUSTIFIED FREELY. So why am I still holding the gavel? [Build] Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? [Silence] NOT ME EITHER. I don't get to become my own saviour by proving I was never wrong. And I don't get to become my own judge and condemn myself forever. [Breakdown] Did I do wrong? YES? NAME IT. Did I hurt you? YES? OWN IT. Can I repair something? YES? REPAIR IT. Do I need to turn? THEN TURN. But listen— "I DID WRONG" is not— "I AM THE WOUND." "I NEED TO CHANGE" is not— "I AM WORTHLESS." "YOU HURT ME" is not— "I WILL LEAVE YOU." [Silence] DON'T ADD THE SENTENCE. [Build] For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. So let sorrow MOVE ME. Don't let shame BURY ME. CONFESS. TURN. REPAIR. LEARN. RELEASE. [Final Chorus] LET GO OF THE GAVEL! I am not saved by winning every argument. I don't need to make you guilty so I can survive being guilty of something. I can hear truth WITHOUT COLLAPSING. I can receive correction WITHOUT RUNNING. I can say— I WAS WRONG. I AM SORRY. WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT RIGHT? [Silence] And when I've told the truth— when I've turned— when I've repaired what I can— I don't have to beat myself to prove I repented. [Silence] THE LESSON CAN STAY. THE SHAME CAN GO. LET GO OF THE GAVEL. [Outro] There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [Silence] The truth was faced. The wrong was named. The lesson stays. The gavel goes. [Long Silence] JESUS IS THE LORD.
