FRANK 025 – The Workshop on Orkney Island | Frankenstein

(Verse 1) He found a barren island where wind and ocean cried, And chose a ruined dwelling upon the northern tide. There far from every neighbour, beneath the shifting grey, He locked himself in darkness and turned from light of day. (Verse 2) The tables filled with fragments, the instruments with stain, As Victor shaped another from knowledge bought with pain. Each movement of his fingers recalled the former night, And every piece assembled renewed his old affright. (Chorus) Alone upon the island he laboured by the flame, To build the promised woman who never had a name. The sea beat on the shoreline, the wind accused the door, While something born of duty took shape upon the floor. (Verse 3) He wondered what she might become when life began to rise, What hatred might awaken behind her opened eyes. She had not made the bargain, nor sworn that she would flee, And Victor feared the future that no one yet could see. (Verse 4) Beyond the dirty window the empty ocean rolled, While dread within his workshop grew heavier than the cold. He worked beneath compulsion, yet questioned every part, As terror fought the promise that bound his weary heart. (Chorus) Alone upon the island he laboured by the flame, To build the promised woman who never had a name. The sea beat on the shoreline, the wind accused the door, While something born of duty took shape upon the floor. (Bridge) No Henry stood beside him, no friendship crossed the sea, Only the vow he carried and what its price might be. Each stitch became a question, each hour increased his fear, And through the island darkness he sensed the watcher near. (Outro) The unfinished form lay silent beneath the lantern light, While Victor stared upon it through yet another night. He thought of what might follow if life obeyed his hand, And heard the endless ocean break cold against the land.
