Fly, Little Kite 🪁 I sit upon the windowsill and look across the field. The trees wear autumn colours now, so bright, so beautiful. I fetch my little kite today from high up in the cupboard, put jacket on and shoes as well, and call, “Bye, Mum! See you later!” At the field’s edge, I hold my kite up high, the string held tightly in my hand, then run with all the strength I have, as fast as I can. But then, oh no, with one small swoop, my little kite won’t rise at all. It drops back down with one dull thud and lands upon the ground. I call out loud, “Dear wind, come through! My kite can’t fly without you! Now blow with all your mighty breath, or it will stay below you!” And sure enough, my next quick run sends my kite rising high. It dances, flutters in the wind, so lovely from down here. “Oh, I would love to flutter too, so free, so light, so far. Fly, little kite, fly far away, but only where your string can reach.” Lyrics copyright 10/2025 Kati Weber All rights reserved
