After the Storm, We Sit
It got loud. But it passed. We raised our voices with the thunder, Mistook the noise for being strong, Every strike was born of fear That said we didn’t belong. The body learned to brace itself Before the mind could choose, We fought to feel alive again With nothing left to prove. I saw the shaking underneath What sounded like resolve, Every anger hid a question No one had the calm to solve. Silence wasn’t giving up, It was space to finally hear, What the heart was asking gently Once the danger disappeared. Peace didn’t come from winning, Or from standing tall, It came when we stopped pushing Against the wall. Reflection lowered what the fight had raised, Calm arrived without demand— Peace of mind wasn’t found in force, It was learned when we could stand. The first truce wasn’t with another, It was made inside the chest, When breath returned to something slow And told the body “rest.” I learned the strength of letting go Was heavier than fear, But once I set the armor down The future felt more clear. What if calm is just the signal That the threat has lost its claim? What if peace is what remains When we stop feeding the flame? We don’t heal by striking harder, Or by closing every door, Peace of mind is choosing stillness When the past asks for more. After conflict comes reflection, After shouting comes the hand— Peace begins when we decide Not every storm is ours to stand. I am.
