The Drink: "The Mother of Sighs" (Mater Suspiriorum) This is a riff on the classic "Death in the Afternoon" (Hemingway's drink), but twisted for a witch's coven. It uses Absinthe (for the hallucinogenic, "Green Fairy" witch vibe) and Sparkling Wine (for the high-society dance academy setting), with a bleed of dark fruit. The Flavor Profile: Anise (Licorice), Dry Bubbles, and Deep Berry. NOT a sweet slushie. Ingredients: 1 oz (3 cl) Absinthe (The high-proof, anise-flavored spirit. This represents the occult magic). 0.5 oz (1.5 cl) Chambord (Black Raspberry Liqueur) or crème de cassis. (This represents the dark, clotted blood). Top up with Dry Prosecco or Champagne (Italian bubbles for the Italian director). Garnish: A twist of lemon peel, discarded (to release the oils but keep the look clean). Preparation (The Ritual): Pour the Absinthe into a coupe glass or flute. Slowly pour the cold Prosecco over it. The Absinthe will react and turn milky/cloudy opaque green (the "Louche" effect). It looks like a ghost forming in the glass. The Bleed: Carefully pour the Chambord down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom, creating a layer of dark, purple-red blood beneath the milky green fog. Do not stir. The Trigger (The Drinking Rule) We need a trigger that isn't visual, but auditory, matching the band Goblin's incredible sound design. Always take a sip of "The Mother of Sighs" when... ...you hear a heavy, raspy "sighing" sound, a whisper that isn't dialogue (like "Witch!"), or when the wind inexplicably blows doors/curtains open.
