[Intro – whispered, playful, sparse piano] Little Miss Muffet Sat all alone Waiting for something To call her own [Verse 1 – smoky, conversational] Pretty little dress and a porcelain smile Been sitting in the corner for a little while Everybody thinks she’s sweet as pie Nobody ever asks her why A shadow moved across the wall Eight little footsteps, barely at all She didn’t scream, didn’t run away Just tilted her head and said, “Do stay.” [Pre-Chorus – creeping bass, rising tension] Oh, they warned her about his kind Said he’d get inside her mind But some things aren’t quite what they seem And some little girls have darker dreams [Chorus – bold, swinging, memorable] Come sit beside me Don’t be shy I’ve been watching you With my pretty little eyes They say you’re trouble Well, darling, so am I Come sit beside me My sweet little spider guy [Verse 2 – playful, sharper attitude] He spun his silver, she poured the tea Said, “You’re not nearly as wicked as me” He asked her softly, “Aren’t you afraid?” She laughed at the little web he’d made “Darling, I’ve tangled a heart or two And I’ve got a few little secrets too You catch flies, I catch lies We’re quite the pair, you and I” [Pre-Chorus – building] Oh, they warned her about his kind But she had other things in mind He thought he’d found an easy prey Until he heard her softly say [Chorus – bigger, layered harmonies] Come sit beside me Don’t be shy I’ve been watching you With my pretty little eyes They say you’re trouble Well, darling, so am I Come sit beside me My sweet little spider guy [Bridge – half-spoken, music drops] He said, “I thought you’d run.” She said, “How sweet.” “Then why’d you leave that empty seat?” [Pause] “Because, darling…” “I don’t chase.” “I wait.” [Final Chorus – full band, wickedly playful] Come sit beside me Don’t be shy There’s room for two Where the shadows lie They say you’re trouble Well, darling, so am I Come sit beside me My sweet little spider guy [Outro – sparse piano, whispered] Little Miss Muffet Sat all alone… [Pause] Not anymore.
