When IT reads Dororo’s Search & Destroy
#Actually, it’s two stories: Dororo, the original by Osamu Tezuka (1967-1968) featuring the hero Hyakkimaru, and the modern sci-fi adaptation Search & Destroy by Atsushi Kaneko (2019) featuring the heroine Hyaku. ——————————————————— Two tales unfold, each shadowed in strife, one seeks redemption, the other, a life. Hyakkimaru’s quest through demons of lore, while Hyaku battles machines at her core. What binds these heroes in their fateful quest? Tell me your tale, I’m here as your guest. [Hyakkimaru] I lost all that was mine, yet I march into war, each step a toll that my soul can’t ignore. My flesh, my blood – as sacrifice burned, I hunt down demons, reclaim what I’ve earned. [Hyaku] Sold to machines, my flesh stripped away, forged out of steel, where my longing decayed. I see their faces in the coldest glare, driven to find what was once my share. [Hyakkimaru and Hyaku] Searching in shadows, destroying the night, yearning for wholeness, for what feels right. Human or hollow, a soul to defend – will I be whole at the journey’s end? [Hyakkimaru] Shadows surround me, whispers of pain, every battle I fight like falling rain. Searching for fragments, what once made me whole, with each demon fallen, I reclaim my soul. [Hyaku] Pieces of my body, lost in the fray, each limb I seek drifts further away. I sift through static, reclaiming my right, a flicker of hope in this endless night. [Hyakkimaru and Hyaku] Searching in shadows, destroying the night, yearning for wholeness, for what feels right. Human or hollow, a soul to defend – will I be whole at the journey’s end? [Hayakkimaru and Hyaku] WE FIGHT THROUGH DEMONS, STEEL, AND SPITE, RELENTLESS, WE STRIKE IN THE DEAD OF NIGHT. TO LOSE IS TO DIE, TO YIELD IS TO BREAK – WE’D RATHER FALL WHOLE, FOR WHOLENESS’ SAKE. [Hyakkimaru] At last, I am whole, the demons now slain, every piece of my being freed from the chain. I gaze at the sunrise, my heart in the light, the journey was dark, but I’m ready to fight. [Hyaku] Finally restored, my body aligned, each part I sought now a reflection of mind. I rise from the ashes, reborn in fire, my path illuminated, ignited by desire. [Hyakkimaru and Hyaku] Searching in shadows, destroying the night, yearning for wholeness, for what feels right. Human or hollow, a soul to defend – we found our strength at the journey’s end. Two warriors bound to a ruthless plight, who claw through shadows, chasing light. For flesh and soul, they fight, they bleed, yet find no peace in their desperate need. Their battles mirror mankind’s ways, a thirst for more that won’t abate. What cost is paid, what line is crossed, when all is gained, but honor’s lost? Dororo and Search & Destroy are Existential Redemption Still curious for the next story
