Hunter's Nightmares

Hunter woke with a start, reaching for the man she knew wasn't there. This was the third time this week she had that nightmare. Each time it was a little different. This wasn't the first time that Robert was in the dream, but this was the worst one so far. This time he threw her like she was a ragdoll, turned and face that ship alone. When she reached for him he was gone... just gone. She knew that wasn't how it happened, but it wasn't too far from the truth. He was dragging her back to the shuttle on the rescue sled everything went wrong. She was only barely conscious, and even less aware of what was going on. She remembered shouts and cursing, and the thunder of the engines. Those damn pirates dropped on them when they were scarcely a hundred meters from the ship. He had broken into a run, pulling her right behind him. He must have been running on pure adrenaline. There's no way he could be that strong to carry them both that fast. Then she was rocketing by him, into the ship as he was turning with several others toward the incoming ship. There was a ball of flame and debris that came into the shuttle. Part of the debris was Robert. He had bounced once before her, then over her into the seats and equipment, his body impossibly twisted. She had passed out again at that point. The rest of what had happened she only knew because of the recordings. The cameras had captured the whole thing, but she wasn't allowed to see most of it, especially the camera feeds inside the ship where they were. They apparently thought he was dead, until he groaned. Then they thought he was going to die anyway, but he hadn't. The Dreams just keep on coming They don't ever seem to stop.
